How to install an eSIM

About five minutes the first time. Here is the whole process, step by step.

  1. Check your phoneIt must support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked. Most recent iPhones and many Android phones do.
  2. Choose and buy a planPick a provider and a plan for your destination. You will receive a QR code or an in-app install option.
  3. Install on Wi-FiScan the QR code or follow the app prompt. Do this before you travel, while you have a reliable connection.
  4. Label the lineGive it a clear name such as Travel, so you can tell it apart from your home line.
  5. Switch on when you landTurn on the travel line for mobile data and enable data roaming for it. Turn off roaming on your home line to avoid charges.

Menu names vary by phone and system version. If something looks different, your provider's instructions take priority.
